Weird and Wonderful Bearded Dragon Behaviors

The social gestures or social behavior exhibited by the dragons include, head bobbing, arm waving and throat puffing. Although such bearded dragon behaviors are more commonly seen or displayed during mating season, they also bob their heads or wave their arms at other times. Males in a conflict vigorously wave their arms, while lizards that are overheating may also wave their arms in an attempt to cool down.

Head bobbing is a territorial behavior and two males who are fighting for domination, will aggressively bob their heads or puff out their throats to show a threatening stance. Females on the other hand are also head bobbers, yet they bob their heads to demonstrate their interest for a particular male, and to indicate that they are ready to mate. The female head bobbing behavior tends to be more relaxed and seductive, while the arm flapping accompanied by the head bobbing is a sure sign that the female is trying to attract a willing and able mate.

Experienced keepers are aware that the behaviors which are displayed by these lizards are not exclusive to either sex. Both male and female bearded dragons will use these weird and wonderful antics for various reasons. The inflated beard is a typical behavior for and this is usually seen during mating season. By inflating their beard the male and females will appear to be more ferocious and larger. Their aim with this particular behavior is to intimidate or scare off their enemies. Another strange behavior is tail curbing and this is a sign that the lizard is in peak condition, good health and is alert.

Dragons are awake and alert during the daylight hours and to this end, pet owners are able to witness the weird and wonderful bearded dragon behaviors. By nature, these lizards are generally social and interactive creatures and will welcome the interaction of their human owners.

Setting up a replicated habitat in a glass enclosure will provide hours of entertainment and owners are able to see the antics of these popular and loved reptile pets - up close and personal. Most dragons tend to be pretty docile, however as with humans, each one is unique and when they are kept in captivity, those who keep these creatures as pets will soon learn the different signs displayed by the lizards. For the most part, these sun-loving reptiles will spend much of their time basking in the sun - and their weird and wonderful antics will be used during mating season or in the event that they feel threatened.

Unlike other types of lizards or reptiles, these endearing creatures enjoy a large level of human contact. Time should be taken to 'tame' the lizards, bearded dragon keepers will soon be able to accurately read the signs exhibited by their pet. With the raised or curb tail being a clear indication that the bearded dragon is in good health and is alert - this behavior will allow owners to gain the assurance that their pet is in tip-top shape and content.

First time keepers should visit the Bearded Dragons Care website where more information on the bearded dragon behaviors have been posted, along with other useful hints and tips on how to keep a dragon in excellent condition. www.beardeddragonscare.com

Bearded Dragon Habitats

Your bearded dragon needs a good place to live and a proper enclosure. This is known as Bearded Dragon Habitats. These are some important tips you need to know when choosing the proper enclosure for your bearded dragon.

Aquarium: It's important that you keep your beardie in a glass aquarium and Not a wired cage. The wires are dangerous and will not supply them with the heat they require. Wired cages can cause damage to their nose and feet. The price between a glass aquarium and wired cages is not that much, so be smart and get your beardie the glass aquarium

Size: Beardies 3 to 7 inches can be kept in a 10 gal. aquarium while 7 to 12 in. beardies can be kept in a 20 gal. tank. Beardies over a foot long, which is 12 in., should be kept in a 40 gal. tank. You can keep two adult beardies in a 40 gal. tank but this is not, I repeat, not recommended. Beardies also enjoy running room, beardies are very social with people and love attention.

Diet: Beardies enjoy a wide variety of foods but theres a catch, each beardie likes different foods. Some will like fruits more than veggies. When they're between the ages of 1 day old to about 9 months old you need to feed them crickets more than any thing else, start offering greens when they're 4 to 6 months old. Adults hill eat greens more than crickets, beardies can also eat meal worms, king worms(only when they're adults), and much more.

Substrate: Now this is a very tricky section, why? Because each dragon is different and it seems to depend on your region. My beardies cant stand any kind of sand, even the so called "edible" Calci-sand. When I used Calci-sand with my dragons even my Leopard Geckos, got sand impaction. I recommend reptile carpet because its easy to clean, its inexpensive, and it comes in variety of colors and sizes.

Lighting/Temperature: Make sure you have a heating lamp and a uvb lamp. The uv/uvb rays provide vitamin D witch helps with the body's ability to adsorb calcium. The temp should be around 90 degrees and 100 degrees during the day, and during the night the temp shouldn't go below 70 degrees at all during the night, however if it does your beardie can survive one night if it drops that low then you should invest in a night heating light.

A few parting tips:

Beardies need a lid to keep your cats out, and even you don't have cats, you should still use a lid to keep insects out. You may think beardies can eat any kind of insects but this is not true. If a beardie eats a spider it will die within 24 hours. The spiders venom cont be broken down by the beardies digestive system. If want to breed them then once a week give your females a pinkie mouse with its rump dipped in calcium. Give males one pinkie mouse a month. Also the male and female should be at least a year and a half old before you breed them.

These are the best tips for your bearded dragon habitat. So do your research before buying a beardie make sure you are set up properly

Bearded Dragon As a Pet - To Know Tips For Any Bearded Dragon Owner

Popular as ever and growing in notoriety around the world, owning a bearded dragon as a pet is no more of a problem than having a cat or a dog, and they are a lot easier to care for. Native to Australia and thus subject to import and export laws in each other country, the bearded dragon is one of the smallest of the lizard population. These reptiles are a popular choice for kids as they are calm and friendly and relatively easy to look after.

Adults will range in size between sixteen and twenty-two inches so having an enclosure that is large enough for them to move around in and play is important. Having a triangular head and a little flattened lower area, they may expand a pouch under their jaw, as well as inhale air and puff up, when they are feeling threatened. This enables them to look a lot larger than they actually are, which of course is a defensive mechanism utilized by a large number of animals in natural settings.

They typically eat a wide variety of food, are active in the day and are really delicate by nature. They are almost always captive bred when you see them in pet stores, and they are readily available and relatively cheap. Having a bearded dragon as a pet is a fun thing for all to become involved with, from the apparent bonding with the lizard to the fun that can be had making their enclosure look and feel really cool.

In fact having a larger enclosure which is fitted out with ornamental plants, real rocks and logs, and other natural looking things, almost has the results of bringing nature inside.

It is important to recollect though, that anything natural like rocks and logs, etc need to be cleaned and boiled before introducing them to the enclosure. This will make sure there are no contaminants on the things, shielding your new pet from possible harm, or sickness.

From a feeding viewpoint having a bearded dragon as a pet is a terribly easy process. They are omnivorous which means they'll eat insects and vegetables. Adults will also eat meat in the sense of baby mice, and other small lizards, but can also be found eating whatever takes their fancy. A varied and balance diet consisting mainly of vegetables appears to be the best feeding plan.

When feeding them vegetables they're going to need to have their greens chopped up and the smaller the lizard, the more finely they're going to need to be sliced. A great mixture of shredded carrot, greens, corn, and mixed frozen vegetables is a good choice. Avoid broccoli and spinach as these can be harmful.

Feeding insects to your bearded dragon as a pet would include crickets, meal worms, and wax worms, but they'll generally eat all kinds of insects. Insects should be gut loaded before feeding them to the lizard, which means that the insects should be given a nutritional meal before being fed to your dragon.

As well as a good balanced diet, dietary additions should also be given to your dragon. Calcium and Vitamin D3 additions can help to stop metabolic bone disease, which can be fatal. These additions will be available in a powder form, which you can dust over their food.

5 Tips For Bonding With Your Bearded Dragon

Reptiles are very different to dogs and cats and will not display affection in the same way. However there have been many cases proofing that you can build a bond with a bearded dragon. They have been known to even have favourites, preferring attention from one owner more than another.

Here are 5 top tips to building a relationship with your bearded dragon;

Regular Handling

Bearded dragons are extremely tolerant of being handled. I allow mine to run around the kitchen at weekends for a while. They love to explore every nook and cranny.

Do not be scared of your beardie. They will only show aggression if they feel threatened or stressed. Be firm with them, but careful not to hurt them.

Hand Feeding

A great way of building trust with your dragon is to hand feed them. I hand feed my dragons their live food and vegetables. The key here is not to overdo it. Your pet should not become over reliant on you and lose their instincts to hunt prey and to eat from their food bowl.

Bearded dragons are very gentle and will take from you using their tongue, doing their best not to hurt you. They do make mistakes though and have been known to confuse fingers with food. Personally my dragons have never bitten me, just be careful and be assured that it is not intentional.

Regular Feeding Pattern

Try and install a regular feeding pattern for your dragons. They will come to recognise this and eagerly wait for dinner time. Just be prepared for a look of disapproval if you are late with their dinner.

I struggle to get the food into the food bowl before they are feverishly taking it from my hand. I really should install some table manners into the pair, but its very funny to see.

Bathing

Bathing is a great way of hydrating your lizard. Bearded dragons do not recognise still water and seeing them drink from a water bowl is a very rare sight.

Bath them in a sink, or the bath in warm water. Some dragons enjoy this and others don't. But they will absorb the water through their pores hydrating their bodies.

Disinfect the sink or bath after use.

Respect their Privacy and Sleep

Loud televisions and stereos whilst your dragons are trying to sleep will cause them stress. Try and respect their down time. Also if your dragon is hiding under their log, its probably because they don't want to be disturbed. Respect their privacy and unless its urgent, such as giving them medication, leave them alone.

Bearded Dragons – best family Pet!

Geneioforos dragons make an excellent addition as a pet in each family, especially if you have children that want a bearded dragons, reptile because they have a very easy way. It is great for beginners and become very popular as pets, but dragons are a serious commitment and requires some special care. For a geneioforos dragon to live a life long healthy, they need a suitable housing and the right diet

Before you select even one geneioforos Dragon, must set the shell to verify that it is willing to spend before you restore the original geneioforos Dragon. Baby dragons can be housed in a 20-30 gallon enclosure and adult dragons must be housed in an enclosure at least 40 gallon breeder. Now, dragons grow quickly, so once I bought the creator 40 gallon to save money by purchasing two different casings. You must use a top of the screen, to provide air traffic and leave damp. Dragons originate from the desert region and do not need any humidity of the enclosure.

Together with the right choice bearded dragons also have special lighting. It is diurnal lizards and require 12 to 14 hours a day to UVB light process of calcium and vitamin D3. The best way to provide them with lighting outside and enjoy the Sun. It may be difficult to provide all the time, so you can use a UVB fluorescent tube as dragon geneioforos can find within five to six inches, and the UV rays will not through glass because the glass will reflect UV rays and makes it useless for geneioforos Dragon. The UVB to florescent tubes exhausted and need to replace the tube every four to six months. You know that it is time to replace the bulb when you slow down and geneioforos Dragon is not as active as usual.

As with other reptiles, bearded dragons cannot digest food without heat. Dragon a Basking spot should range between 100-110 degrees farenheight baby bearded dragons, sub-adults and 95-100 degrees Fahrenheit for adults. You can provide this with a lamp House regular 75 watts. The cool side of the cage should be around 85 degrees farenheight. It is very important to have a warm and cool hand why dragons should heat to regulate their body temperature. At night, temperatures can fall below 65 degrees farenheight, but not below it. It is very important to never use heat rocks because they burn you geneioforos Dragon. Dragons sense heat by using the top of their heads and heat rocks just to warm their bellies. A Dragon will never know if it is too hot and you sit there, even if it is burned.

The last two things you need for a geneioforos Lair housing is medium and decoration. Baby dragons, it is better to use paper towels, newspaper, or a repti-carpet, their poop a lot, because it is easier to clean poop deck these substrates. When they reach adult hood, you can use play sand but I prefer to keep using repti-carpet. You do not want to use sand to baby dragons, because these can be compacted. Sand is not the only thing that can induce condensation, it can cause any loose substrate. You will also need some trimming of the cage. You don't need very much, you only need a branch or something similar, so a dragon may find close to the heat and UVB light cave and a cool side of the cage.

Now that the housing your Dragon is completed, will need to know how to feed your Dragon. Geneioforos dragons are omnivores, so there are a variety of species of live food that you can help the Dragon. Some of these foods are healthier than others. Healthier food could feed your Dragon is crickets. An alternative to crickets is super worms. The rule for your nutrition geneioforos dragons live food is the width of the food must not be greater than the width of your Dragon eyes. If it is larger than the eyes of the Dragon, could cause impaction. You can also feed your dragon mealworms and wax worms, as well. You will need to feed a baby Dragon three times a day, a sub-adult twice a day, and the adult once every day. Do not feed wild errors because they could have parasites and pesticides that can harm or kill your Dragon.

A Dragon should also be supplied vegetables daily, starting one week after it was born. Here are some healthy vegetables to your diet, Dandelion Greens, Collard Greens, mustard Greens, kale, Boken choy, turnip rape Greens, Escarole, chicory, Butternut Squash, any form of squash, green beans and Parsnips. You should not eat spinach because it causes calcium to connect and will not be anything. Vegetables should be diced until it is smaller than the width between the Dragon geneioforos your eyes.

Even if bearded dragons and more popular as pets because of their docile temperament, require special care and attention. With a suitable housing and the right diet, your Dragon will live a long healthy life.

Bearded Dragons substrate-what is correct?

Geneioforos dragons substrate (sometimes called a floor) is the material used in your dwelling Dragon line. In the local environment, geneioforos dragons live in sandy desert areas. Playground sand is often used because it is relatively dust-free and easy to maintain, although there were reports of intestinal impaction. Substrates can also include wheat bran (parasite-free and intended for human consumption), with outdoor Carpeting, non-stick-filled shelf liner and paper napkins. Other substrates it is newspaper, pea gravel rock or aquarium.

Be careful if you use any type of loose substrate when trimming, like many dragons will try to dig under the cage furnishings and can be trapped or crushed if furniture is wellplaced. Good substrate must be clean and safe. Be suspicious of substrates that might damage your Dragon.

Materials to avoid:

The following is bad for one main reason-impaction (see the article on impaction too). Many shops may try and tell you that it is appropriate, it may even use the same, but they are wrong.

Each one of the following has been proven to cause impaction and death to bearded Dragons (and other reptiles) and should be avoided:

-Corn Cob: Hard and unpalatable to large Beardies.

-Walnut shell: it seems pretty harmless, but the edges are too sharp and this could be your Dragon kill very easily. There have been documented impaction deaths beard Dragons. Also goes under a variety of brands, so emfainoysas package check carefully before to listen to and buy from pet stores.

-Calcisand: the problem with this product is twofold. Firstly, as the taste and can eat if they lack sufficient calcium in the diet. Secondly, can clump and form a bolus unpalatable in their digestive system.

-Repti bark: very fibrous and easily could eventually cause impaction and it is known that ultimately subjected to the aeration.

-Original lizard litter (made from the kenfa tree) and mixing jungle.

Substrates such as materials, cut tree bark, or COB corn should not be used, as can hold moisture and promote bacterial growth.

Either shave wood such as Cedar or pine should also avoid-Cedar had dangerous aromatic oils and pine may be affected if it is ingested.

It should also be very cautious with bleach in the enclosure of the Dragon, the heat from the lights can cause toxic fumes from the bleach.

There are many good substrates and the use of one or the other depends on factors such as the severall-dragon age (s), and others. And in a very important Tip: it is extremely important to make sure that you use your Beardy ever sand in ' s cage until the larger then 6 cm in length-not including the tail.

How to avoid Impaction bearded Dragons

Impaction is one of the causes that generated many dragons geneioforos deaths. On the impaction, a geneioforos Dragon's digestive tract is blocked by a mass of solid or semi-solid.

In the case of a big impaction, the animal will not be very moving, one or two back legs paralyzed may appear. If the line is higher than the impaction of the digestive system, the front legs may also be paralysed. A lower impaction which affects only the hind legs can continue to grow until the front legs are also affected.

1. the causes of impaction

A. food

If a geneioforos dragon to eat foods that are too large to move correctly of the digestive system. The best prevention for this is to remember that each foodstuff must be smaller in size than the space between the eyes geneioforos Dragon.

Certain foods cannot easily digestible. Large crickets, mealworms and superworms increases the risk of developing impaction (mainly in the newer geneioforos dragons).

B. no relevant temperatures

Geneioforos dragons required appropriate temperatures, so that the food will chwneyetai peoperly. Remember that the surface a geneioforos Dragon, (after lunch) should be maintained at a temperature between 100 to 115 degrees, in order to digest food properly. If a geneioforos Dragon powered digest a difficult point for food and not provided with adequate temperatures in order to digest that food can also cause impaction.

C. hazardous substrates

Bearde Dragons likes to eat nothing out of the cage. Many substrates may pose a risk. Some materials have been reported to cause impaction. Some of them are Calci-sand, any type of pellets, dried enough based on substrates of vegetable origin are also known to have a high risk. Many producesrs substrates argue theire products are totally digestible. However, before you trust a substrate, an investigation to discover those opinion with many personal experience about this.

2. detection of Impaction

There are few indications that you may notice. One of the first indications are that the Beardie will stop going to the bathroom regularly. You will notice its inability to excrete regularly or get worse when you do. Or perhaps a slight leg trembles, regurgitation, dragging one of its hind legs, not Walking properly and you may also see a small bump along the region of the spinal cord.

These particulars is not necessarily a problem, because each animal is different, but if you see them, and the pet does not act like his normal self, be sure to pay attention. This may be an indication that something serious is happening.

A pointer to a more serious problem is the partial leg paralysis. The hind legs will have less mobility or the Dragon will drag his feet. Of course this could not be by impaction, but it is certainly a problem and needs your immediate attention.

The paralysis that you see is because the stomach into the intestines to the right along the spine through/top. Pushing on the spine, and don't have disk between vertebras protecting the spine and other animals. Lower impactions will show usually a slightly raised area along the mid-to lower back, or you can feel in the abdomen. Don't promote it along the spine of the far right or power move their feet, let us do so in time, forcing them to cause permanent damage.

3. the treatment of Impaction

What is generally that the earlier stages of a mild impaction, you may be able to offer you geneioforos Dragon some relief by giving him a hot bath and gently massaging the abdomen. Massaging gently downwards towards your geneioforos Dragon ventilation helps to move an impaction downwards through the digestive tract, so that he can pass.

Highly recommended especially that go with your pet to a VET immediately. If you cannot locate an experienced reptile VET in your area, you may be able to get some contribution record on specialized sites (more to come).

Description of the types 8 geneioforos Dragon

In total there are 8 kinds of geneioforos Dragon. But throughout history when reptiles were discovered, great controversy and confusion arose. As a result, there are many different common names for certain kinds of Lair and in some cases even exhibit a variant as well as their scientific name. To complicate matters further, some people recognize only 6 species and subspecies of 2. While I could go into more detail about the history of the discovery geneioforos Dragon, I thought that it would bring confusion arising for your attention and you will be redirected to the important facts about each item.

Geneioforos dragons were named because of the beard that display when you feel threatened. The first species discovered was the Eastern beardie (pogona barbata). You may have noticed the scientific name for Eastern beardie is barbata. Can guess why? Good derives from the word barbate Barber. I believe that the scientist who made the discovery, although he had a shave! These lizards grow only on two feet in length, making it one of the largest geneioforos dragons. These can be found along the East coast of Australia, in various areas including open woodlands and dry scrublands. Unfortunately, these dragons are prone to damage from human contact, such as love to bask in the streets for warmth. This can be very dangerous!

Now if you are looking for a dragon to comply, in all likelihood be gasping inland waterway geneioforos Dragon (pogona vitticeps), as is the most popular and readily available in the pet trade. It is also known as the Central geneioforos Dragon because they live in the Centre of Australia. These children are also the largest of all geneioforos dragons, more and more two feet in length. They live in desert areas, dry forests and scrublands.

Nullabor dragon (pogona nullabor), a kind of beardie, is only found in Australia and therefore is not available overseas. This Dragon is a relatively small, reaching only 8-10 cm in length and are obviously in plain, nullabor, South and Western Australia, hence the scientific name. These are unique because of the beardies white zones extending along the back.

Other types of small Habitat in which the name is Dragon Beard dual sanctuary River (pogona microlepidota). It is the National Park of the River dual sanctuary home to these spectacular lizards. This is literally the only place they can be found, as it is not available to any other counties. So if you want to see these Dragons, you can make a journey within.

While these can be found abroad, reduced in number, since it is difficult to develop and Lawson beard Dragons are also members of the Clan beardie. That increase in length of 10 inches and can be found in the plains of Central Australia, a Habitat which is very hot and dry.

Now I think this would be the next smaller beardie in the game, but paradoxically this is not the case. You can find the Beardie dwarf (pogona minor) about East of Western Australia and parts of South Australia and Northern Territory. That rises to 8-10 inches and is similar in appearance to the Western Beardie.

This is one of the beardies which can be classified as a subspecies of the dwarf bearded Dragon. Western bearded Dragon (pogona minima) can be found outside and grow to 20 centimeters in length. Called the Western beardie because you are mostly found in Southwest Australia, inhabiting coastal dunes and dense forest.

The Mitchell Dragon (pogona mitchelli) is native to Western Australia in dry forests and desertification. They grow to about 8 centimeters in length and can not be found abroad. Therefore, these fantastic dragons are not available in the pet trade.

You can learn more about the types of geneioforos dragons on my website. It includes a more detailed description of geneioforos dragons, by size and Habitat distribution throughout Australia.

Geneioforos Dragons-secrets to breeding Baby bearded Dragons

Geneioforos dragons is by far the most interesting of all pets and those who are constrained by space, you'll find that these lizards to fantastic pets options. Those who decided to keep a beardie as a pet are often tempted to develop the dragons with the intention of selling hatchings or ' beardies ' or simply to keep infants as additional pets. Those who are new to the breeding habits of geneioforos dragons will quickly discover that it is not as easy as it may seem very unlike the breeding of dogs or cats, human intervention is necessary in order to achieve success.

Since these lizards are not hosted on the natural environment or their habitats, human owners will need to recreate an environment as close as possible to the natural geneioforos Dragon habitats. When you're ready to start breeding bearded dragons, the owners should trick pet believing that is the winter or spawning. To achieve this scenario, you must set a UVB light (a necessary element for all enclosures) to deactivate the timer. To simulate the winter, the light must be set for ten hours a day and 14 hours of the night. Recreating the perfect reproduction of a temperature conducive to its reproduction would mean that we should reduce the temperature in simulated Habitat. Another factor which will play a role in the successful reproduction of geneioforos dragons reduced food supplies, such as the winter is a time of sparse diet.

The first stage of the rearing process are referred to as photoperiod and stage lasts at least six weeks.
